Battle of Hastenbeck

The Battle of Hastenbeck is a tactical victory for France on German soil. Marshal de Richelieu inflicts defeat on the Hanoverian-British coalition, allowing French forces to advance in Lower Saxony.

During the Seven Years' War, France supports its allies in the Holy Roman Empire by fighting Hanoverian and British forces. Hastenbeck is a key engagement that temporarily opens the way for the French in northern Germany.

Richelieu uses coordinated attacks on several fronts, combining infantry manoeuvres and cavalry charges to destabilize enemy positions. Exploitation of the hilly terrain around Hastenbeck was also a key factor in success.

French victory leads to temporary occupation of the Hanoverian region and signing of the Convention of Klosterzeven disengaging Hanover from the conflict. However, the war will continue with many other confrontations.
